From the album Better Days
We were now looking for songs to fill the record out. I got a song in, and so did guitarist Artie Cashin. This is the first of his two songs on the record.
As told by Gerry Schultz: A very good player and writer, Artie had previously played on the second Granicus record in 2010. The song is very fast and intense. It was initially even faster than it is now, and Artie suggested a title for it along the lines of ' It's Time To Fight ', which I couldn't work with. I had to find another subject matter. Joe, Gregg and I occasionally talk sports, and sports music is a lucrative line of writing these days, so I decided to take the song that way.
There is a certain mania to sports, an obsession that reaches emotional levels. It is interesting to see athletes elevated forever by a single act or victory and others still haunted decades later by a single mistake or defeat. So, that is part of the storyline, and it worked with Artie's music.
Win The Night
V1: Thing is, you gotta believe
For us to get to victory tonight, tonight
You gotta have, you gotta need
You gotta want your way into the lights, tonight
C: Got to win, got to Win The Night
From first to last, got to make it right
In Years ahead, left to wonder why, No No
We just got to win, got to Win The Night, oh yeah
V2: Long days of hot sun
Got to get it ready, get it done, get it done
With every push and shove
Stronger to the final score, yeah more
